The south side of Hillsboro is growing! Construction of new single-family homes, townhomes, condominiums, and business centers continue as South Hillsboro realizes its master plan for the largest planned housing development in Oregon’s history. The city is expanding by more than 1400 acres, transitioning on the southernmost border from farmland and open space to Tualatin Valley Highway, a major arterial that is dotted by small commercial developments.
Representative of Hillsboro’s commitment to diverse housing and a multi-cultural city is the development at Reed’s Crossing, Butternut Creek, Vendage and Rosedale Parks in South Hillsboro. When completed, this community will have an estimated 8,000 homes, including single-family homes, townhomes, condominiums, and cottages, at a variety of price points and with different architectural styles. Two neighborhood parks are presently open, but more will be built for a total of 285 acres of open spaces and parks, along with 15 miles of multi-use trails. The intent is for every resident of South Hillsboro to live within a quarter mile of a trail, park, or recreation facility.
Reed’s Crossing currently features the Providence Health Center along with a Wellness Center providing a fully integrated health system for all ages, primary care, and urgent care alike. It is a marvel with a state-of-the-art fitness center, pool, offices, and café. This facility, near the entrance to South Hillsboro, will anchor one of two mixed use centers that combine shopping, services, and meeting spaces. And plans provide for up to an additional five new schools. Hillsboro’s school system is rated above average in Oregon and will continue to improve with each additional modern campus.
If you enjoy a combination of urban amenities and rural landscapes, then Hillsboro may be a place to call home. There is a strong city center with government buildings, boutiques, pubs, and shopping but sweeping farmlands are just a few miles away. Job opportunities abound with large and small employers alike in farming, manufacturing, and high-tech. The diversity of this city is endless and appeals to many so there is no wonder this area continues to grow.
